Chairman & CEO
Chuck Clough is responsible for the overall portfolio strategy and risk management for the Funds. Mr. Clough has been active in the securities and investment business for over 30 years. His experience covers most analytical functions from research analyst to portfolio management. Prior to founding Clough Capital Partners, Mr. Clough served as the Chief Global Investment Strategist at Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc. for over thirteen years, where he was responsible for directing the global investment strategy research effort of the world's largest investment firm. Mr. Clough advised many of the world's top institutions and investors on portfolio strategy. He was named to the Institutional Investor All-America Research Team for 12 consecutive years and earned a place as the top ranked strategist on Wall Street on three separate occasions. Mr. Clough has been consistently recognized as a top strategist in areas such as U.S. equities, global investments and fixed income.
Mr. Clough graduated magna cum laude with a major in history and a minor in economics from Boston College and earned an MBA at the University of Chicago. He has maintained a Chartered Financial Analyst designation since 1979.
Jim Canty manages our energy, finance and industrial portfolios. He has over 20 years experience in equity research, corporate and securities law and accounting in a broad spectrum of industries. Mr. Canty began his career as a CPA with KPMG Peat Marwick. He also worked as a corporate and securities attorney with Bingham, Dana & Gould and Goldstein & Manello in Boston. Prior to joining Clough Capital, he was the Associate General Counsel, Corporate Secretary and Director of IR, for Converse, Inc.
Mr. Canty earned his law degree from Georgetown University and his BBA in Accounting from St. Bonaventure University.
Partner & Research Director
Eric Brock is a portfolio manager focusing his efforts on themes related to globalization and many of our international investments. Mr. Brock began his career as a CPA with Ernst & Young and he also spent several years as a leveraged finance investment banker with Bear Stearns & Co. Mr. Brock has over 15 years experience in equity research, investment banking and accounting in a broad array of industries. Mr. Brock also directs the investment research effort for the firm.
Mr. Brock holds an MBA from the University of Chicago and a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Boston College.
- Francoise Vappereau
Portfolio Manager, China
Mrs. Vappereau is a Portfolio Manager for the Clough China Fund. Mrs. Vappereau has more than 30 years experience in equity research and more than 20 years in fund management, not only in Asia but also on US and European markets. Mrs. Vappereau has lived in Hong Kong for 17 years, working first with Lombard Odier as a manager on Asian and Australian equities and member of the strategy committee and then with Clay Finlay as a senior investment manager on Chinese equities and China's economic development and outlook. Before coming to Hong Kong, she worked 13 years at Lombard Odier in Geneva and 10 years as an analyst at Eurofinance in Paris. Mrs. Vappereau speaks French, English and Mandarin Chinese.
Mrs. Vappereau graduated from Political Sciences Institute at Paris University.
- Robert Zdunczyk
Fixed Income Specialist
Mr. Zdunczyk manages Clough Capital's fixed income allocation, and is a Portfolio Manager for the Clough Global Allocation and Clough Global Opportunities Funds. Mr. Zdunczyk is responsible for the trading of all fixed income securities in the Clough portfolios. He also follows Mortgage REITs' and other income generating equity sectors. Mr. Zdunczyk has sixteen years of industry experience. Before joining Clough in 2005, he worked as a Core Bond Portfolio Analyst for Wellington Management, LLP. Prior to that, Mr. Zdunczyk worked as an Account Supervisor with Investors Bank and Trust Company.
Mr. Zdunczyk holds a Bachelor's Degree in Economics from Boston College and has his Masters of Science in Finance from Northeastern University.
- Brian Chen
Portfolio Manager, Asia Specialist
Mr. Chen joined Clough Capital Partners in 2010 as a Research Analyst focusing on the Asian equity markets. Mr. Chen has nearly 20 years of Asia investment industry experience. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Chen was an Analyst at Liberty Square Asset Management and Grosvenor Street Capital concentrating on public equities, and at ChinaVest, on the private equity side. He also has extensive Wall Street experience, working for Salomon Brothers, Credit Suisse First Boston, and ING- Barings.
Mr. Chen holds an MBA from Columbia Business School, and a Bachelor's Degree in Economics from Duke University as well as a Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
- Vincent Lorusso
Mr. Lorusso is a Managing Director focusing on equity investments in various industries. Prior to joining Clough Capital Partners in 2004, Mr. Lorusso was a Senior Investment Consultant with Natixis Asset Management.
Mr. Lorusso holds a Masters of Science in Finance and a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and English both from Boston College Carroll School of Management.
- John Birkett
Mr. Birkett is a Managing Director focusing on equity investments in the Business Services and Industrial sectors. He has over 8 years of investment industry experience. Before joining Clough he worked as a Research Analyst for Copper Rock Capital Partners, LLC. Prior to joining Copper Rock and attending business school, Mr. Birkett was an Associate Director in the Strategic Planning and M&A group at IAC/InterActiveCorp in New York City. Mr. Birkett started his career in investment management working as a Research Assistant at Wellington Management Company, LLC focusing on equity markets of emerging market countries.
Mr. Birkett holds an MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management and a Bachelor's Degree in Economics from Tufts University.
- John Dolan
Mr. Dolan joined Clough Capital in 2012 as a Managing Director focused on equity investments in the Technology and Telecommunications sectors and brings over 19 years of industry experience. Before joining Clough, he spent 7 years as an analyst and then Director of Research ('08-'12) at Raptor Capital and its predecessor, Tudor Investments. His coverage responsibilities were in TMT and special situations. He was a member of the Raptor Capital Management Committee. Prior to Tudor, Mr. Dolan founded Compass Point, a registered broker dealer and was an Executive Director at Morgan Stanley.
Mr. Dolan holds a BA in English and an MBA from Boston College.
- Michael Hearle
Mr. Hearle joined Clough Capital in 2012 as a Managing Director focused on equity investments in the Healthcare sector and brings over 18 years of industry experience. Mr. Hearle began his career with Merrill Lynch & Co and remained on the sell-side until 2004 with Leerink Swann & Co, where he was Co-Director of Equity Research and ranked #1 for three consecutive years in the Institutional Investor Best of the Boutiques poll for Specialty Pharmaceutical research. Mr. Hearle went on to focus as an institutional investor on the global healthcare sector as a Principal at Pequot Capital Management and Portfolio Manager at Millennium Partners where he invested in numerous developed and emerging healthcare markets around the world.
Mr. Hearle holds a BA degree in Political Science from The College of William & Mary. He lives in Boston with his wife Mary and their daughter and two sons.
- Priscilla Chan
Senior Research Analyst
Ms. Chan joined Clough Capital as a Research Analyst focusing on China and Hong Kong markets. Ms. Chan has over 9 years of investment experience. Prior to joining the Firm in September 2009, Ms. Chan was an investment analyst at Clay Finlay (HK). She has also worked as a senior research analyst at Richmond Asset Management and Fu Heng Investment and a research analyst at Qi Capital. Ms. Chan is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
Ms. Chan holds an MSc of Banking and International Finance from City University Business School in London and a Bachelor's Degree in Economics and Management from University of London.
- Florence Liang
Ms. Liang joined Clough Capital in 2011 as a Research Analyst focusing on China and Hong Kong markets. Ms. Liang has over 6 years of investment experience. Prior to joining the Firm, Ms. Liang was an investment analyst at Daiwa and Chuo Mitsui. She has also worked at Pricewaterhouse Coopers (HK). Ms. Liang is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
Ms. Liang holds BA in Economics and Masters in Accounting from University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. Ms. Liang is also a CPA. She lives in Hong Kong, China.
- Josh Howland
Mr. Howland has been Head Trader for Clough Capital Partners since 2001, offering special expertise in implementing option strategies. Prior to joining Clough Capital in 2000 as Operations Manager, Mr. Howland was a Senior Accountant at Investors Bank and Trust Company.
Mr. Howland holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Rhode Island and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
- Katherine Tully
Ms. Tully has served as a Trader since 2004. She joined Clough Capital Partners in 2003 and served as the point person on operations for our closed-end mutual funds, serving as the liaison between the Funds, custodian and traders. In addition to trading, her daily activities include trade reconciliation and cash management for the Funds, as well as coordination with the Funds' administrator on recurring asset allocation, performance reports and SEC filings.
Ms. Tully holds a Master of Science in Finance and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and a minor in Business Administration both from Northeastern University.
- John Kowaleski
Mr. Kowaleski joined Clough Capital Partners in 2004, initially focusing on the Firm's accounting and finance activities. Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Kowaleski was an analyst with the business consulting firm, Accenture. He began trading for Clough Capital in 2006.
Mr. Kowaleski holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Boston College Carroll School of Management in Finance and Marketing.
